“From Oberlin to You”
Originally built as E.M. Skinner’s Opus 230, and rebuilt in 1955 as Aeolian-Skinner #230-A, this grand organ served generations of students at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music along with the vibrant cultural community of Oberlin, OH. Organ Clearing House executive director John Bishop recalls organ lessons and required performances on the organ, and its role accompanying the Oberlin Musical Union, a large inclusive choral society founded in 1837 – the second oldest continuing choral tradition in the United States. Only Boston’s Händel and Haydn Society (1815) has a longer tradition. The organ was sold and dispersed in preparation for the installation of C. B. Fisk’s Opus 116. We are happy to offer nearly all of the organ’s 83 ranks (4599 pipes) for sale, excepting a few larger ranks that were incorporated in the Fisk Organ. Here’s a great opportunity to resurrect a distinguished organ that played a role in the formation of hundreds of today’s prominent organists.
